Nonsurgical and slightly invasive options for body sculpting fat reduction include technology that utilizes heat or cooling or an injected medication to  eliminate fat cells from the body. While none of these best fat reduction treatments are a replacement for liposuction, they give options for patients who are unwilling or not in favor of surgery. Nonsurgical fat reduction alternatives use a variety of modalities, including radio frequency, ultrasound, vacuum massage, infrared light, and injectable medication.

Among these procedures that include nonsurgical fat reduction are cryolipolysis, injection lipolysis, radiofrequency lipolysis, laser lipolysis.

Patients who are breastfeeding or pregnant should not have any of the aforementioned procedures.

Cryolipolysis, usually referred to as "CoolSculpting" by patients, uses body fat freezing treatment technology to eliminate fat cells. The fat cells are particularly vulnerable to the effects of cold, unlike other types of cells in the body fat sculpting while the fat cells freeze, the skin, and other structures are protected from any kind of injury.

This is one of the best fat freezing treatments, with more than 450,000 procedures performed all over the world.

Patients with cold-related conditions, body sculpting fat removal, like cold urticaria, cryoglobulinemia, and paroxysmal cold hemoglobulinuria, should not undergo cryolipolysis treatment. Patients with poor tone or loose skin may not be ideal candidates for this treatment of body freezing for weight loss.

Injection lipolysis

Injection lipolysis chemically decreases the number of fat cells from a particular area. The chemical which is referred to as deoxycholic acid results in fat cell death and disruption. Currently, it is FDA-approved for the treatment of the area below the chin to eradicate what is called a "double chin."

Nonsurgical patients and candidates interested in a nonsurgical method for reducing the fat under the chin might be interested in injection lipolysis treatment. Patients with poor tone or loose skin may not be ideal candidates for the procedure.

Radiofrequency lipolysis is a treatment which utilizes a radio frequency to heat the fat cells without an instrument which is making physical contact with the patient. The applicator heats from a distance of 1cm from the skin. Fat cells are specially heated without impacting other kinds of cells in the skin. A common example of radiofrequency lipolysis is Vanquish. Patients who want to lessen a localized fat bulge that has persisted despite exercise and diet may be interested in radiofrequency lipolysis treatment. Risks are minimal. Patients with poor tone or loose skin may not be ideal candidates for the procedure.

Laser lipolysis utilizes laser energy delivered through an applicator. The fat cells are specially heated and disrupted without impacting other kinds of cells in the skin or other structures. A typical example of laser lipolysis is SculpSure.
